Advantech LoRaWAN Solutions for Smart Metering- Daily Cloud Communication for Monitoring and Billing
Date: 4/17/2017 12:00:00 AM
Smart meters are electronic devices that record consumption of electrical energy and communicate that information back to the utility for monitoring and billing. And they are not just used for measuring electricity usage, they are also used for measuring natural gas or water consumption. Smart meters enable two-way communication between the meter and the central system.
Requirements and Solution
Smart meters use a secure national communication network to automatically and wirelessly send actual energy usage to the supplier. This means households will no longer rely on estimated energy bills, have to provide their own regular readings, or have meter readers come into homes to read the meter. To achieve all this, WISE-1510’s proven hardware with secure Low Power Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) wireless encryption engine, complete SDK, and design-in service for integration, was able to wirelessly collect and sent all data to central system. Incorporating various other uplink options such as WLAN Wi-Fi, Wired Ethernet or WWAN 3G connection, WISE-1510’s WISE-Agent software communicated with the WISE-PaaS/RMM Cloud platform so the SI was able to build their smart metering system quickly and save on installation costs and end customer was able to receive an accurate hassle-free billing service.
