Introduction

    A passenger information [display] system (PIS or PIDS) is an automated system to show the real time information about the public transportation status, including predictions about arrival and departure times; it not only makes passenger journeys more convenient and efficient, but also provides important information for both passengers and drivers.

Requirements

    Passenger Information Systems (PIS) requires powerful computing and graphic engine capabilities as they need to support simultaneous streamed video broadcasting and fast database updates for instant feedback. One of our customers in Europe was looking for a small, easy to maintain, reliable industrial Mini-ITX to install into their system for their PIS application in the railway and underground. Due to the system will be installed on the high-speed rail station, it will require industrial-grade motherboard for long-time operation and with high reliability. Advantech AIMB-217 was considered the ideal solution because it combines the great graphic performance and plentiful I/O for peripheral integration, as well as the THIN & fanless design and the extended temperature -20~70C support.

Moreover, AIMB-217 offers significant graphics performance boost up to 4K2K and can support three simultaneous, deliver stunning graphics and media performance that satisfies the needs of high-quality display applications for PIS. Besides, AIMB-217 supports rich I/O including MiniPCIe/M.2 for wireless & storage expansion to meet the needs of information display, video playback and system upgrade and expansion. Furthermore, AIMB-217 can operate under wide temperature settings ranging from -20~70 °C, making it an ideal solution for use in semi-outdoor environments for rail station and underground located outdoors.
