Looking for stocks businesses that might benefit from a recovery in infrastructure spending in mainland China? Advantech, a maker of industrial computer equipment led by chairman K.C. Liu, might be a business to keep an eye one. shares have gained 18% in the past year, outperforming the main index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange, which lost about 15% of its value. Demand in China may benefit as the government boosts infrastructure spending in areas such as railways to offset a broad slowdown in economic growth. Citigroup Global Markets in April had a “buy” on its shares, which according to Bloomberg are trading at price-earnings ratio of 14. One alternative to buying Advantech might be Taiwan-listed Acer Pillar, which distributes about 40% of Advantech’s goods in China.
Liu, a graduate of Taiwan’s National Chiao Tung University, met Advantech’s two other founders, Chaney Ho and Yuh Min Hwang, while working at Hewlett Packard in Taipei in sales and marketing. The company has about 5,900 employees worldwide today.
